Treedimensions Pomoretum
A pomoretum is a collection of fruit-bearing plants and in particular fruit-trees.
From 1982 onwards we started to establish an Edible Landscape at Treedimensions incorporating orchards, berry gardens, a small vineyard, wild fruits and woodlots. The purpose was to allow evaluation of hundreds of fruit-varieties of the warm-temperate/Mediterranean zones including 35 types of grafted fruit like apple (with about 200 varieties alone).
Criteria for selection included disease resistance, site-adaptation, cropping potential, taste, seasonality and shelf-life of fruit.
The entire operation is certified to the NZ Demeter standard of un-compromising organic production and processing facility is approved by the NZ Food Safety Authority.
Treedimensions Commercial sales country-wide to consumers direct, retailers, coops, supermarkets, restaurants and cafes, information centers and accomodation addresses.
Opportunities to interact over all these years have included:
• Education and training facility since the early nineties.
• Individual programmes designed for (voluntary adult) training.
• Guided tours (individuals and groups) of the orchard.
• Fruit-full time January till May each year
All by prior arrangement
If you have a particular interest exploring what can be grown without tricks in our region or what we have a special interest in – get in touch and we sort something out to suit you. We are usually busy and especially between January and June we are harvesting and processing.
